Plastics Recycling Drive May 17th

Updated: Mar 27

Active Bethel Community will be hosting another plastics recycling drive on May 17th, from 10am-12:30pm, at the Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Berntzen Rd, in the gravel parking lot right off Royal Ave. You can use the link at the end of this email to sign up for a slot to drop off your recyclables. We're also always looking for volunteers to help on the day of the drive, so reply to this email and let me know if you're interested in that.

FAQ’s:

What plastics will be accepted in the drive?

  • We will be accepting #4, 5 and SOME #2 plastics.

    • Most recycling companies are now accepting #2 jugs and bottles, as well as containers larger than a tennis ball, so please place those in your curbside recycling. You may bring us #2 containers smaller than a tennis ball.

    • Most recycling companies in our area are not accepting #2 tubs, so we'll keep taking those for now.

    • If your company doesn't accept #2 jugs, bottles or containers, go ahead and bring them to us.

What condition should my plastics be in to be accepted in your drive?

  • As of November 2023, labels no longer need to be removed from MOST plastics prior to recycling. This should save us all a lot of time! However, ALL recyclables need to be completely clean AND dry. (Medicine bottles DO need labels removed before they can be accepted, due to privacy laws.)

What happens if I drop off items with you that you can’t recycle?

  • If Lane County Waste Management can’t accept them – because they are the wrong type of plastic, not clean enough, or not completely dry – we can’t do anything with them but throw them away. This is especially sad when the plastics are recyclable, but are not clean or dry enough to be accepted by LCWM. To best ensure that this doesn’t happen, please follow all recycling guidelines, ask questions if you have them, and remain on location at the recycling drive until ALL your donations have been approved and accepted by our volunteers.

Thanks and hope to see you on May 17th,

-Emily Pyle
